ART in the MAKING
The making of art is as diversified as grains of sand in a desert. There are so many ways to create, it would take all the worlds computers to catalog them. Some artists use more than one technique to create a single piece. In many of my works I use more than 10 different techniques in a single artwork.
I am often asked how I create the heavy texture pieces seen in my Igneous series. Here are the steps I use in the process.
Cover a large canvas (I often work very large) with drywall compound. Sometimes using twigs and pieces of plastic to make hills and valleys.
Start laying on some color. I chose a basic palette of colors before I began a piece. I might want a warm blend of colors so I choose reds, oranges etc. In my Igneous series I chose metallic blends of color. This piece also starts with metallic and cool blues. Though it may not stay that way.
Paint drying... It's acrylic but I lay it on heavy so it takes time.
